Sanskrit | Track Walkthrough [Infernal Sounds]

‘Sanskrit’ is the opening track from Mungk’s fresh new EP on Infernal Sounds (January 2022). With further exploration of organic soundscapes and instruments from around the world, this EP is another slice of what is unmistakable as Mungk’s unique sound. Though still utilising many of his favourite techniques, Mungk admits to focussing on a slightly darker and heavier style for this release. 

Walking you through the entire track, Mungk will has split the breakdown into five definable sections: Introduction, Drums & Percs, Bass & Sound Design, Sampling & Melodics and finally, the finishing touches. 

‘Introduction’ serves as an overview of the talk and what is to come. This also features your first listen of the track ‘Sanskrit’ that Mungk will be walking you through. 

‘Drums & Percs’ will cover how Mungk puts the percussion into his projects utilizing Ultrabeat’s ‘Drag & Drop’ function to create his own kits and banks. He talks through techniques for MIDI Arrangement as well as processing and layering samples. 

‘Bass & Sound Design’ covers Mungk’s approach to the low end. Utilizing SubLab for big 808s and unique resampling techniques in order to layer textures and create interesting sounds. Mungk likes to approach his sound design with a slightly different ‘out-of-the-synth’ approach. 

‘Sampling & Melodics’ will cover Mungk’s process for sourcing and manipulating samples to create melodic content. Mungk enjoys the challenge of seeing how many times he can flip the same sample in one project. 

‘Finishing Touches’ covers all the final bits of how Mungk puts a track together such as arrangement, mix down, fills, breaks, FX and all the tiny details that can really make a track stand out.
